Two New Versions of Smartsoft Give Better, Additional Options for Aviation Weight and Balance!

BODOE, Norway, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Smartsoft is pleased to announce the release of two new versions of its weight and balance software for mobile phones: Flight WTK 2.0 and Flight WTK Lite version. Praised by major aviation magazines in the UK, France, Spain and Norway, Flight WTK 1.0 is currently selling in more than 20 countries. Flight WTK is simple to use and enables pilots to perform weight and balance on their cell phone in as little as 40 seconds. Running exclusively on mobile phones, the application does not make use of SMS or other expensive services. Flight WTK is unique in that it uses the mobile phone as a computing device and runs like a software application.

Flight WTK 2.0

While Flight WTK 2.0 contains quite a few improvements over the previous version, it also brings several new features to pilots, especially helicopter pilots. Flight WTK 2.0 supports longitudinal graphs for helicopters. "Weight and balance are even more critical for helicopters than for airplanes," says Smartsoft spokeswoman Ewa Opheim. "Although Flight WTK 1.0 currently is used by helicopter pilots, it can't handle certain envelope graphs unique to helicopters. After having received numerous inquiries from helicopter pilots, we decided to include support for any kind of envelope graphs in the 2.0 version." Another important feature is the ability to download new aircraft instead of inputting this data manually. "A study among our users revealed that many pilots felt that inputting aircraft data was a complex and uneasy process. We have listened to our users and while it is still possible to do it the old way, pilots can now install new aircraft in less than a minute simply by pushing a few buttons," Ewa adds.

Flight WTK Lite version

The Lite version of Flight WTK is free of charge and comes with one aircraft already installed -- Piper PA28-181. It has essentially the same functionality as Flight WTK 2.0, with one exception. If the user wants more than the already installed aircraft, he/she has to pay to download new ones. The cost is $29.95 USD per aircraft. Pilots that fly only one aircraft and don't enjoy checking what other aircraft models can carry, can now opt for the Lite version. Once an aircraft is downloaded, the user can edit all aircraft data except the envelope coordinates. In other words, if you download e.g. the Cessna 172L, you can adapt it to your C172L but you cannot change it into a Cessna 182.

"Our survey shows that as pilots get to know Flight WTK, their perceived value of the application increases dramatically. Over 60% of initial customers from 2003 purchased upgrade in 2004 and lots of pilots that have now used Flight WTK on a continuous basis for more than a year say they simply couldn't live without it. Flight WTK Lite gives pilots the opportunity to download and try out a fully functional version of light WTK before having to spend money on it," says Ewa Opheim. She also notes, "Flight WTK Lite gets more expensive than the full version when you are downloading your 3rd aircraft."
